Gary Young is the author of several collections of poetry, including American Analects (Persea Books, 2024); That’s What I Thought (Persea Books, 2018), winner of the Lexi Rudnitsky Editors Choice Award; and Even So: New and Selected Poems (White Pine Press, 2012). He has also translated several volumes of poems from the Chinese. 

Among Young’s honors are the George Bogin Memorial Award, the Lucille Medwick Memorial Award, and the Williams Carlos Williams Award, all from the Poetry Society of America. The director of Cowell Press at the University of California, Santa Cruz, he lives in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
