Brian Sneeden

Brian Sneeden is a poet, literary translator, and editor. He is the author of Year of the Labyrinth (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2026) and Last City (Carnegie Mellon University Press, 2018). His work has appeared in Harvard Review Online, Poetry Daily, Virginia Quarterly Review, and other publications. His translation of Phoebe Giannisi’s Homerica (World Poetry Books, 2017) was selected by Anne Carson as a favorite book of 2017. His other translations of Giannisi’s work are Chimera (New Directions, 2024) and Cicada (New Directions, 2022).

Sneeden’s poetry has received the Iowa Review Award in Poetry and the Indiana Review’s 1/2K Prize. His translations have received an National Endowment for the Arts’ Literature Translation Fellowship, the World Literature Today Translation Award for Poetry, the Constantinides Memorial Translation Prize, a PEN/Heim Translation Grant, and other recognitions.

Sneeden served as managing and senior editor of World Poetry Books, where he was the team lead on books that have received both the PEN Award for Poetry in Translation and the Academy of American Poets’ Raiziss/de Palchi Book Award. He is a senior lecturer in English and creative writing at Manchester Metropolitan University.
