Kathryn Cowles

Katheryn Cowles was born in Provo, Utah. She earned her MA and PhD from the University of Utah in 2009.

Cowles is the author of three poetry collections: The Strange Wondrous Works of Eleanor Eleanor (Fence Books, 2026), winner of the Fence Modern Poets Series Prize; Maps and Transcripts of the Ordinary World (Milkweed Editions, 2020); and Eleanor, Eleanor, Not Your Real Name (Bear Star Press, 2008), winner of the Dorothy Brunsman Poetry Contest.

Cowles’ honors include the Poetry Society of America's Alice Fay di Castagnola Manuscript-in-Progress Award, the Academy of American Poets Larry Levis Poetry Prize, and the Snow-Neff Fellowship at the University of Utah.

Cowles is an associate professor of English at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in the Finger Lakes region of New York, where she directs the Trias Residency for Writers and co-edits the Beyond Category section of Seneca Review.
